Peterhouse South, Cambridge
The infrastructure development project at Peterhouse Technology Park in Cambridge, UK, has been successfully completed, with our team delivering a comprehensive range of groundwork and utility installations to support the park’s advanced technological facilities. This project demonstrates our expertise in complex civil engineering, precision utility work, and site finishing.
Completed Works:
• Block Paving & Tarmac Installation:
– Our team expertly cut and laid block paving across key areas, ensuring durability and a visually appealing surface for both pedestrian and vehicular use. o We precisely cut and removed sections of tarmac for kerb and edge installations, maintaining smooth transitions and ensuring long-lasting stability.
– In designated areas, tarmac was cut to create trenches for utility installations, followed by careful resurfacing to preserve structural integrity.
East/North Section Accomplishments:
1. Excavation and Utility Installation: We expanded the area to install the BT chamber, laying the foundation with two layers of tarmac and a protective polythene sheet to safeguard against water ingress.
2. Storm Drainage: The storm pipe for the eco-channel was extended near the site’s entrance to improve drainage and prevent water accumulation, ensuring the park’s compliance with environmental standards.
3. Telecom Infrastructure: BT and Telecom chambers were installed, with all pipes and conduits connected, providing seamless telecom services throughout the park.
South Section Accomplishments:
1. Heating Pipe Protection: Trenches housing heating pipes were backfilled with sand to protect the infrastructure, followed by the placement of road plates to ensure uninterrupted access during construction.
2. Trench Filling: The trenches were then securely backfilled with Type 3 limestone, providing a stable and resilient base for surface installations.
3. Topsoil Management: The excess topsoil was strategically relocated and spread across the south-east corner of the site, preparing the area for landscaping and future development.
North Section Accomplishments:
1. Core Drilling and Bollard Installation: We carried out core drilling to install bollards, providing security and traffic management solutions. The block paving was temporarily lifted, then restored to its original condition after the bollard installation.
2. Utility Duct Backfill: Ducts housing utility lines were backfilled with sand to ensure proper insulation and protection. Concrete was poured around the chambers to secure them in place, preventing future settlement or movement.
Final Work:
• Tarmac Disposal: We efficiently managed the breaking and removal of tarmac, transporting it to the designated muck area as part of our environmental management plan.
This project was completed to the highest standards, with all groundwork, utility installations, and surfacing finished on time and within budget. Our attention to detail in both the technical execution and the final surface treatments ensured that Peterhouse Technology Park is equipped with resilient infrastructure, ready to support cutting-edge technology and industrial activities for years to come.
